1. We believe in work-life balance

We believe it's essential for our professionals of all ages to pursue an interest (or two) that offers a release from the stresses of everyday life. You won’t find us working until the early hours of the morning. Music and the arts in general are popular here, but so is paintball, cooking, triathlon, yoga, footy (tipping), computing ...

2. We're flexible

We understand you have commitments outside of work, so we work with our people to come up with flexible working arrangements. Many of our staff work part-time or work from home to allow them to maintain other commitments, such as studying or taking care of children.

3. We encourage leadership and innovation

We empower all team members to take charge and be leaders within their areas of responsibility. We encourage our staff to be innovative and constantly challenge them to look for better ways of doing things.

6. We help you achieve your goals

What really motivates people to love their jobs is achievement, recognition and the work itself. The question we ask of each team member is “what sort of career do you aspire to?” Then we set goals with you to help you achieve it.

Transparency as to the scope of the services and cost are hallmarks of our success. We have replaced traditional time-costed legal services with fixed priced products across the practice.

We use teamwork for almost every client file and management project. Work of all kinds is “strata-titled” into tasks for team members at different levels. Clients benefit from multiple perspectives and cost savings. Team members contribute to a variety of interesting matters.

Information is our stock in trade

Each and every member of our team is committed to using computerised systems in new and innovative ways to deliver legal services.

Workspaces with energy and inspiration

Considering how many hours each week we spend at work, it makes sense to make it a pleasant and attractive environment. Our belief that workspaces should be stimulating and promote teamwork has informed our decision to include vibrant open-plan spaces in the mix of traditional offices and meeting areas. We’ve decorated with energising colours and bold, contemporary art.

Cadetships – law undergraduate recruitment program

Next intake: TBA

Since 2002, we have successfully employed law undergraduates on a part-time basis whilst they study. Our objective is to build mutually satisfying long-term relationships with exceptional men and women. We invite applications from law undergraduates at any stage of their degrees.

These part–time career positions are not designed as vacation clerkships or to provide temporary student employment.

We advertise vacancies through the Western Australian law schools, generally in February / March each year. We hold a free information session at UWA in early March and applications usually close in mid-March.

Applications must be made via our cadetship page. We welcome applications at any time. We will hold your application on file until our next intake.

Graduate executive program

We are a boutique city-based law firm with a focus on litigation and property matters.  We have a non-hierarchical, collegiate environment and a commitment to using information technology to grow and improve our business.

Our objective is to build mutually satisfying long-term relationships with talented University graduates with qualifications suited to the needs of our business.  We employ, or have previously employed, graduates in law, marketing, accounting, business administration, web development and applications development.

You will have the potential to be a talented business professional with considerable personal qualities, commitment and enthusiasm.  We will provide you with the resources that you need to conduct yourself as a professional.

Depending on the position, you will work in one or more multi-disciplinary teams which will include business owners, lawyers, legal executives and our web site and software application developers.

As a general rule, to be eligible for the program you must have a bachelor degree from an Australian university, preferably in Law, Arts, Economics, Commerce, Business or Computer Science.  University students completing the final semester of their degrees are welcome to apply.  We would expect you to work for us on a part-time basis while you complete your degree; and thereafter on a full-time basis.

Psychological assessment

To assist us to recruit the best possible people and also to ensure a good fit with our team members, we may require appointees to undergo psychological testing as part of our selection process. If we decide to offer you an advertised position, our offer may be conditional on you being satisfactorily tested by our human resource consultants, Chandler Macleod.

Chandler Macleod is a leading human resource consultancy providing similar services to a wide range of clients in the resources, manufacturing, retail and professional sectors. We have retained them for more than 20 years.

The tests are conducted at their local offices and take about three hours. They assess literacy, numeracy and speed and accuracy (measured against the Australian adult population); critical thinking (measured against the Australian management population); and personality. There may also be an interview conducted independently of the tests.

We will arrange for you to discuss the report with Chandler Macleod on a confidential basis should you wish to do so. We treat this information as confidential and will destroy it if ultimately you do not accept the position.
