Lucy Dickens

LLB (Hons), BA (Comm St)
Legal Practitioner Director
Departments: Probate and deceased estate administration, Property and commercial law, Real estate settlements, Wills and estate planning

Lucy leads our non-contentious Wills and estates team to provide easy to understand succession and estate administration advice. As well as practising law, she brings together people, technology and processes to design and deliver our innovative legal services.

Lucy works alongside her co-directors Michael and Nigel to ensure that Birman & Ride does two things:

  1. Deliver high quality services to help people simplify and solve legal problems.
  2. Create a supportive team culture fostering kindness, innovation and excellence.

Lucy’s Adobe Creative Type is “The Producer” – she is analytical, pragmatic and creative, but balanced with a realist and “get it done” attitude. She finds huge fulfilment in turning ideas into something tangible that others can enjoy and benefit from.

Lucy’s high standards, ability to lead and inspire others and facility with technology have been instrumental in the firm bringing new and innovative legal services to the market.

In 2010, working side-by-side with technology partner ContactsLaw, Lucy developed systems that enabled Flat Rate Settlements to dramatically reduce costs and improve service quality. Leveraging these benefits and its flat-rate pricing model, the firm brought revolutionary change to the conveyancing industry in Western Australia.

Following the success with Flat Rate Settlements, Lucy led the development the firm’s on-the-spot services – interactive systems enabling the delivery of many of our services in one client consultation.  Lucy’s innovations have changed, and will continue to change, the way lawyers do business.

Lucy shares her ideas about legal innovation on her podcast, Doing Law Differently and in her best-selling book, It’s Time To Do Law Differently.

In 2020 she was recognised as The Law Society of Western Australia’s Lawyer of the Year, an award that recognises practitioners who have made a noteworthy contribution to the profession.

Lucy has three children and is passionate about supporting and encouraging working mothers to fulfil their career ambitions. She has produced over 100 episodes of The Juggle Podcast, dedicated to supporting women to have a satisfying career and a fulfilling family life.
